As we expand our innovative solutions in  aviation, we are looking for a skilled Aviation Technical Writer to join our team.

Position Overview:

We are seeking an Aviation Technical Writer with deep knowledge of defense aviation systems and training environments to create clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation. The ideal candidate will have experience working with subject matter experts (SMEs) and will play a critical role in translating complex aviation concepts, technical procedures, and training needs into easy-to-understand content. You will work closely with instructional designers, engineers, and SMEs to develop content for training programs designed for pilots, aircrews, and maintenance teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, write, and edit technical documentation, training manuals, and courseware for aviation-related training programs.
  • Work collaboratively with instructional designers and subject matter experts to translate technical information into user-friendly, role-specific content.
  • Create comprehensive materials covering aviation systems, operational procedures, and maintenance processes for defense sector personnel.
  • Research and understand complex technical systems, policies, and procedures to ensure accurate and current documentation.
  • Ensure all content meets the highest standards of clarity, structure, and accuracy.
  • Incorporate feedback from SMEs, pilots, engineers, and training staff to continuously improve technical documentation.
  • Assist in developing modular, on-demand training content accessible on multiple platforms (desktop, mobile, etc.).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure technical accuracy and alignment with training objectives.
  • Prepare documentation for content capture events and ensure readiness for training material production.
  • Attend content capture events as needed to serve as a technical director, ensuring that all relevant procedures and details are accurately documented.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Aviation Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience writing technical documentation, ideally within the aviation or defense sectors.
  • Familiarity with defense aviation systems, pilot training, aircrew procedures, or aircraft maintenance is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical information into clear and concise documentation.
  • Experience working with SMEs, engineers, and technical teams in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of Instructional Systems Design (ISD) principles is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AR/VR training content development is a bonus.
  • Previous military aviation or maintenance experience a plus.

Subject Matter Expert (SME)

We specialize in developing mission-ready training content that equips today’s warfighters with the critical knowledge and skills required in high-stakes environments. To support our growth, we’re seeking skilled Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to join our team as contractors, contributing their expertise to develop cutting-edge training materials.

Position Overview:

We are seeking experienced veterans and military professionals with backgrounds in aviation, weapons and combat systems, maritime and submersible operations, drone and unmanned systems, and maintenance and support. As a SME with DVITS, you’ll play a critical role in translating your expertise into effective training materials. You will work directly with our Manager of Training Development and VP of Content Design and Development to break down complex technical content, develop learning materials aligned with learning objectives, and provide technical support throughout the development process.

This role is ideal for highly trained and experienced veterans and military professionals involved in today’s advanced warfare technologies and techniques who are passionate about preparing the next generation of warfighters for mission success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Manager of Training Development and the VP of Content Design and Development to identify, organize, and develop technical training content.
  • Analyze and break down highly technical concepts and processes to create clear, understandable learning materials that align with specified learning objectives.
  • Draft, review, and edit instructional content, including learning objectives, instructor scripts, production documents, and other training materials.
  • Provide ongoing subject matter support and expertise throughout the development of training modules to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
  • Offer guidance on best practices, real-world applications, and scenarios that reinforce training objectives.
  • Serve as a resource for technical questions, ensuring content meets the high standards of mission readiness expected by DVITS clients.

Qualifications:

  • Military veteran or professional with 10+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: aviation, weapons and combat systems, maritime and submersible operations, drone and unmanned systems, maintenance, and support.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant military and technical systems, technologies, and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical information.
  • Experience developing training or instructional content is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with instructional design principles is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines on a contract basis.
